The Higher Level Skills program provides a government subsidy to support eligible individuals to access subsidised training in selected certificate IV or above qualifications and priority skill sets.
The aim is to assist individuals in gaining the higher level skills required to secure employment or career advancement in priority industries or to transition to university to continue their studies. Employers may also be able to access training to address workforce development needs.
Are YOU eligible?
To be eligible for the Higher Level Skills program, you are required to have the following:
be an existing worker and provide a letter from your employer that you are an employee of the organisation
be aged 15 years or over and no longer at school
permanently reside in Queensland
be an Australian citizen, permanent resident (includes humanitarian entrant), temporary resident with the necessary visa and work permits on the pathway to permanent residency or a New Zealand citizen
not hold or be currently enrolled in a Certificate IV or higher-level qualification (does not include qualifications completed at school or foundation skills training).
Do you need to contribute to the cost of training?
Individuals undertaking training must contribute to their training costs through a ‘co-contribution fee’. The fee may be paid on behalf of the individual by an employer or another third party unrelated to the registered training organisation.
How is an existing worker defined?
A current employee who has one month or more employment relationship with their employer and has actively fulfilled work duties for this period. The one-month working relationship could be full-time or on a part-time/casual employment equivalent basis. Existing workers have access to employee entitlement and therefore do not include volunteers. Registration with a Labour Hire Company does not satisfy the ‘existing worker’ requirement, unless at the commencement of training the prospective student has been engaged in employment for a period of one month or more and is currently employed.
